Future Simple
The tense of spontaneous decisions and promises. The easiest tense to build in English!
How it looks on a timeline:
A single action that will happen in the future.
1. Structure
All Subjects + will + V1 (Infinitive)
👉 I will help you tomorrow.
👉 She will call later.
Subject + will not (won't) + V1
👉 We won't go to the party.
👉 He won't do it.
Will + Subject + V1?
👉 Will you marry me?
👉 Will it rain today?
I / you / he / she / they will ➔ 'll (I'll, she'll)
will not ➔ won't
2. The Verb Form
Good news! You don't need to change the verb at all. No "-s", no "-ed", no irregular verbs.
| Rule | Example |
|---|---|
| Just use the base verb (V1) | will work / will go |
| Do NOT use 'to' |
3. Time Markers
Where to put them?
- At the end (most common): I will call you tomorrow.
- At the beginning (for emphasis): Next year, we will travel to Japan.
- 'In' + time (meaning 'after'): I will be ready in 5 minutes.
⚠️ The Time Clauses Trap
Never use 'will' directly after if, when, as soon as, until. Use Present Simple instead!
